What is SEO?
SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, is the art of optimising a website to rank better in search engines such as Google. It is estimated that approximately 90% of search engine users choose to click on one of the top 3 listings, so it is ever important to rank highly. Professional SEO’s consider what makes these search engines tick, what it is they are looking for and then they adapt the website to give the search engines exactly that. There are many methods and techniques to SEO, On-page is definitely one of the easiest to perform. This involves changing a websites structure, content and code to boost how appealing it is to the search engines.
We do it every day
Let’s face it, SEO specialists spend nearly all of their lives looking at numbers; different stats, measurements and charts. SEO is by no means easy, it has been a long time since merely stuffing the ‘keywords’ meta tag would get you ranked for competitive search terms, as such it is a SEO’s job to keep abreast of the most recent algorithms and ranking factors that affect a websites position.
Often, SEO professionals will know code.
More often than not, SEO’s will know how to code. It isn’t a necessary element to achieve SEO, but I can assure you that knowledge of at least HTML will enhance efficiency greatly. I myself come from a web development background, in fact I even run a freelance web design company based in Essex (Web Design Essex). Knowing how to code helps the SEO make sense of the web page at a much closer level.
Doing it right is hard.
There is a lot of mystery surrounding the beast that is SEO. This is due to a combination of false reporting over the years, changes in what the search engines are really looking for and the reality that nobody really knows the algorithms, thus nobody (other than the Search Engine owners and employees) can tell us exact ranking factors.
Luckily, professional SEO’s like myself have spent far too much of our time working with search engines and reading articles on how they are expected to operate, so we know how to make your website more appealing to them.
There are many factors that result in awesome SEO, and for someone who isn’t sure what they are doing it is easy to get overwhelmed by it all.
We use professional tools to track, measure and improve rankings.
Sure, Google Analytics is installed and you can see how many hits you are receiving a day. That’s awesome. But can you see where your website is failing. Can you see missed opportunities? Can you pin-point why your website won’t rank for specific keywords?
